Honey, I shrunk the car!

With only 803 ever produced and Saab Automobile no longer in business, getting yourself a brand new Saab 9-4X isn’t that easy. But DNA Collectibles just made it pretty straightforward…if you’re OK to settle for a 1/18 scale model!

The Saab 9-4X

With strong design roots from the Saab Aero-X concept car, the Saab 9-4X was the first true Saab crossover. While the first public sighting was at the 2008 NAIAS event in Detroit, the 9-4X was officially launched at the Los Angeles auto show in 2010. Expectations for this last addition to the Saab portfolio were sky-high, but ultimately only 803 9-4Xs rolled off the GM assembly line in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico.

Collector’s items

The interest for the 9-4X has been growing steadily over the past years and the cars are now rapidly becoming collector’s items. Interestingly, not only the full size 9-4X’s are in high demand. It also applies to the scale models of this amazing Saab. If anything, because of the fact that -until recently- there weren’t that many 9-4X scale model options to choose from. Only Editions Atlas released a 1/43 scale model a few years back, as part of their Saab Museum Collection. Atlas unfortunately stopped selling model cars alltogether but the occasional Atlas 9-4X may still be available on Ebay or some other corners of the Internet.

A new 1/18 model by DNA, in crystal red: one of a kind!

DNA Collectibles has made several magnificent Saab models over the recent years, including the AeroX, the 9-3 Viggen and the 9-5NG Sportcombi, to name just a few. While pretty pricey, the quality of the cars has been well above average and a great investment for the true Saab model collectors.
And now DNA is making the 9-4X as a 1/18 scale model: an Aero, with sunroof and in the very rare colour “crystal red”. For me personally, these specs make this model car a “must have”, as it is the exact copy of the very same car that I have owned for many years. In fact, it is one of a kind as there is only one 9-4X Aero with sunroof in crystal red known to be around in the whole wide world!

Want to get your own?

The model can be pre-ordered from the DNA Collectibles website today and is scheduled to be shipped in March 2020. So unfortunately not something you’ll be able to put under the Christmas tree, but something to look forward to nonetheless!
